I just had this idea that I thought was worth a mention. I call it the 'lag buffer'... in an online multiplayer game, all participants will 'freeze' once any participant fails to communicate a test variable across all parties for a significant amount of time. All participants will un-freeze once the test variable is successfully passed on. This will theoretically eliminate opponents from appearing to translate one place to another or bounce around unexpectedly.

I was just wondering if this sounded like a good idea or not... what do you guys think?

What if 1 disconnects, would that mean that everybody will stay frozen, I see many flaws in this, especially if there are a lot of players in the same map, it would stay frozen forever due to different ping that everyone has.
In a game I play right now, it often appears that people can shoot you through the walls (I don't normally play fps, but this one has robots in it...), it's because on their screen you are still stuck in some spot you used to be some 3 - 4 seconds ago which really sucks since many players can kill with a single shot right now lol. The simple solution for this would be the system that Robot Rage had, you only take damage if you get hit on your screen, it would possibly make all the games a nightmare (because only God knows where the player might actually be if he's laggin' like heaven), but to someone like me it sounds like the best idea xD

If 1 disconnects (or is unable to connect) for a while there will be a timeout variable that will automatically kick the player out. The ping differential required to trigger the freeze would be somewhat large to stabilize the game for multiple players. Maybe one way to make it flow smoother would be to only trigger the test when there is also a detectable jump in positions of one player and when a player is in contact with another object. I know it has a lot of flaws I'm just trying to find a better way to handle lots of lag.

Is the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge a big thing over in Europe too? Its gotten over to south america apparently, since there was a 10 min segment of it on the news of a man who screamed like a girl when he got wet...

I'm writing this here because no reason really...but do you think a community chat should ever be used again? I mean, the game is long gone, what do we ever talk about?
We could of course just make a chat for all the robot fanatics to come to, since that's the topic Very Happy
No idea if we will get people that way though, but could try.
I can possibly make this work for xat since nobody tends to use the gt chats anymore, which is a shame, think X still has one running, or even 2 xD

I'd still love to come back and host it like i used to. I wouldn't also mind adding a few other admins like yourselves to run it too. And yes, I see both of your points! The old RR is long gone and the point of having a chat for it is kind of irrelevant, but maybe we can just change the chat into supporting something else more relevant that people use. I would be more than happy to support that, so just tell me what you guys think.

And P.S. this probably doesn't really mean anything since no one really knows how to start or run a server the way RR was used, but I still have all of the old game files that run RR.. you just won't be able to get past the login screen due to the server being offline.
